The Best Solar Panels and Wind Turbines For Recreation, Survival, and Home Use

By

Why Solar or Wind Power?

The current movement towards energy efficiency and for some who crave energy independence, solar and wind power offers an alternative to total dependence on power grids. Better materials and the latest scientific technology has helped to increase the efficiency of both wind and solar electric power generators.

Perhaps you only need a small amount of electrical power in case of emergencies, or have a small isolated cabin in the mountains you wish to power. Sailboats use the small wind power turbines for their entire electrical power supply while at sea or moored in a quiet bay.

There are many other reasons of course, survivalists find them necessary, as do some of the other outdoor sports types. Hunting camps use solar wind power in isolated areas and they do very well for powering low voltage lights and powering up radios and cell phones. Larger solar or wind electric power systems will run a television or other appliance with the proper power converter.

Emergency Solar and Wind Power

Because of the many natural disasters we face in the US, such as hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards, floods, and who knows what else, it pays to have another source of electrical power to fall back on in case of an emergency.

Communication is the thing nowadays with cell phones making this task much easier. Unlike former times when communication was much more difficult to achieve.

Even a small wind turbine or solar panel will provide enough power to charge a standard cell phone. This could mean the difference in life or death for you or a member of your family.

Choose a small solar or wind power system as survival insurance against any emergency power failure.

You may never need either solar or wind power, but just in case you do these small economical power supplies will do the job.

Having either solar or wind power will also enable you to operate a gas absorption refrigerator if you have one.

Keeping perishable food cold through the power outage is one more advantage of having emergency electrical power.

Solar and Wind Power For Camping and Hiking

Some camping enthusiasts love to get off the beaten path and head out deep into the wilderness. Perhaps not too deep, but as deep as one can drive a motorhome or pull a camper trailer anyway.

Unless the noise of a generator running is acceptable to the otherwise peaceful atmosphere, an alternative power supply is required.

In this case, a solar or wind powered array might just be able to provide the needed electrical power to make the experience a complete success. Coastal areas usually receive enough sea breezes to power a wind turbine and the sun will provide power too.

Deserts too have some of each required element as do other locations around the country.

Even for hiking groups a small solar cell can keep the cell phone batteries charged or power a small radio for emergency needs. These solar panels are great for using in a base camp type scenario.

Solar arrays come in several different sizes and power outputs for many applications.  Choose one which can be added to as more power is needed.

Wind Turbines-Dependable and Durable

Those seeking a wind turbine to help allay the cost of home electrical bills, or simply want a safe dependable source of electrical power during emergency situations, have several makes and models to choose from. The wind turbines for sale on this page give you an idea of the variety in the power and price range.

Some models of wind turbines may be roof mounted while others may require a tower of some sort. All of the wind turbines have built in safety features which guard against overcharging the batteries or other malfunctions which may occur.

Weather resistant materials and durable turbine blades assure long trouble free service and dependability. Some of these wind turbines require the proper converter to provide the particular voltage needed for your electrical needs. Check out these converters using the provided ads on this page.

Great hubs. I wish the world could be free from pollution.

Randy Godwin 15 months ago

It could, paypalku! But I'm afraid we will never see it. Thanks for dropping by my hubs.

Great hub. I think the key element required to get people on board is affordabillity. The units that you show in the hub certanly represent a big step in the right direction.

Randy Godwin 13 months ago

Thanks Bill,

Yes, the point of affordability is rapidly approaching for many of us with the price of oil soaring lately.

Thanks for the input and your time.

It's not just the price of oil, but the cost of manufacture for turbines (and solar) is dropping rapidly also. If you don't mind I would to tack on a hub that I wrote about small wind turbine zoning, I think it would be helpful for your followers / readers. Great job.
